Before India became independent in 1947, some sort of election system was existing even during the British Colonial rule during the first decade of 20th century. This volume, based on available records lying in National archives and state libraries, highlights the nature of electoral system during 1920-1947, the system of elections to central legislature, legislative Assemblies, council of states, Constituent Assembly of India and more specifically Punjab legislative council. It contains a basic data related to the elections rather than a critical evaluation of this data and the electoral system. This narration narrates that Punjab, being the last state to be annexed; it was not given same constitutional privileges as were given to some eastern & western states annexed earlier. Punjab was discriminated against even in other areas such as limited representation to Punjab in central legislature and large number of nominated seats in Punjab Assembly. The book is a valuable source of information on the political set up in the Pre-independence Punjab.[edit]
