Linguistic Survey of India Vol.-IX

Description This collection of two prominent Indian languages Rajasthani and Gujarati and their several dialects and sub-dialects by a British officer of the Indian Civil Service (ICS) during the British Colonial rule in India gives comprehensive information about origin, history and evolution of these two languages. It is based on the Indian census of 1891. It gives valuable information about the regions, people, their approximate population, dialects, linguistic variations in several dialects, grammar, syntax, phonology, literature and other linguistic characteristics of these two languages. This scholarly work by an Englishman constitutes a significant source of the linguistic history of these two languages and their uses.[edit]
