Mani Singh, Bhai

Description This tract selected as research paper by Dr Ganda Singh Memorial Trust describes a comprehensive profile of ancient Sikh scholar, soldier and martyr Bhai Mani Singh, a paradigm of virtue and valour. Acknowledged as the unifier of the Sikhs at the most critical times, a projector of the Dasam Granth and Sikh Code of Conduct (Rehat Maryada) and the first head priest of Akal Takht, he sacrificed his life in 1743A.D. at Lahore. Entering into Sikh faith under the guidance of Guru Tegh Bahadur at Anandpur Sahib, he spent thirty three years of his life with Guru Gobind Singh. His six brothers, seven sons and several grandsons sacrificed their lives for the Sikh cause. After the vacuum created by the execution of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur and the factional fight among the Sikhs, Bhai Mani Singh provided a sensible guidance to the Sikhs after assuming the headship of Akal Takht and brought about unity between the two major Khalsa factions. Finally, he sacrificed his life but saved the massacre of Sikhs by his timely canceling of the congregation at Amritsar as he knew about Zakaria Khan's secret plans to kill Sikhs. The paper records the multifaceted personality of Bhai Mani Singh.[edit]
