Bhagat Puran Singh

Description Bhagat Puran Singh, the founder of the famous orphanage "Pingalwara" at Amritsar is a household name and an icon of Social service, especially in the field of providing health care to the physically disabled and mentally-challenged persons. These unfortunate persons have been abandoned both by their families and the society. Bhagat Puran Singh's Pingalwara provides food, shelter and health care to these people. He had devoted his entire life to the service of humanity. He expired a few years back and his mission at Pingalwara is being carried on by Dr Inderjit Kaur. Starting his life at Gurdwara Dehra Sahib at Lahore by taking responsibility of bringing up a deaf and dumb and crippled child, he ended up by setting up a world-class health care centre for the disabled. Besides, he spread awareness about environmental protection, education, moral values and other issues through his writings.[edit]
