Description |
During the decade preceding India's independence and partition in 1947, The Muslims demanded vehemently an Islamic sovereign state for Muslims independent of India. Their demand and struggle resulted in the creation of Pakistan. The Sikhs, another prominent minority, also demand an independent state for the Sikhs. This volume contains the views of ten prominent Sikh political, religious leaders and Sikh legal luminaries' views advocating a creation of an independent sovereign Sikh State for the Sikhs. These articles outline the proposed geographical territory of this proposed Sikh state and political, religious, cultural reasons for the demand of such a state. Their views are collectively based on the fundamental premise that Sikh religion, Sikh identity and Sikhism are distinctly different from both Hinduism and Islam and the Sikhs deserved to be a separate nation[edit]
