Job Title Camera Operator (4 posts)

Job Description PDL’s Digitization Unit is seeking to appoint four Camera Operators for the digitization of manuscripts, in and out of Panjab. Using the latest in book scanning technology the post holders will capture 10,00,000 pages per year from different collections of books, documents, journals and periodicals. No experience is necessary as full training will be provided, but familiarity with Windows computer systems is required.

Rate of Pay INR: 60,000 – 90,000 Anually

Job Title Quality Control Officer
Job Description PDL’s Digitization Unit is seeking to appoint a Quality Control Officer for the digitization project. The project involves capturing over 20,00,000 pages per year from different collections of manuscripts, pictures, books, documents, journals and periodicals. The post holder will administer the quality assurance system and report on progress. Experience with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Windows based software is essential. The ability to communicate in both Panjabi and English and familiarity with digital imaging software packages is desirable. Full training will be provided.

Job Title Computer Operator (2 posts)
Job Description PDL’s Digitization Unit is seeking to appoint two Computer Operators for the digitization project. Using latest software the post holders will scrutinize images captured by digital cameras. No experience is necessary as full training will be provided, but familiarity with Windows computer systems would be an advantage. Employees in this classification must meet production standards established by the PDL. Employees are required to work with keyboards and visual display terminals for long periods of time.

Job Title Librarian for Digital Asset Management
Job Description The PDL invites applications and nominations for the position of Librarian for Digital Asset Management. The PDL seeks an energetic, knowledgeable, and technologically capable individual, capable in traditional cataloging practices but also eager to create exemplary access to a large and growing array of electronic resources. This new position reflects the PDL’s commitment to meet the needs of its users through innovative and creative application of technology. It will help in Cataloging of Digital assets to meet new access challenges in an environment of Web-resources and services, full-text indexing, a diversity of high-profile digital assets, and multiple metadata schema.
Training can be provided.
Responsibilities The Catalog Librarian for Digital Asset Management will assume leadership for defining, creating, and coordinating appropriate descriptive and subject access to the PDL’s electronic resources; work cooperatively to research, evaluate, and interpret developments in metadata and cataloging standards; and recommend, design, and apply appropriate metadata schema facilitating use of PDL’s digital collections within the context of the its evolving and growing digital repository and collections. He or she will assist in developing and implementing access, storage and other policies and procedures, contribute to project management and planning cataloging and processing workflow. The position will develop scripts and routines to batch load and manipulate large sets of catalog records to heighten departmental efficiency and create innovative solutions to problems while enhancing the functionality of the integrated library system. The Catalog Librarian for Digital Asset Management is expected to be active professionally to contribute to developments in the field and work with other libraries of the region.
Qualifications Required: MLib degree.
Preferred: Minimum three years cataloging experience in an academic library at the professional or paraprofessional level, familiarity with current and evolving metadata standards (e.g., RDA, EAD, TEI, METS/MODS, XML, Dublin Core), and associated technologies; knowledge of digital asset management systems, such as DSpace and CONTENTdm; experience with manipulating batch records in MARC or other metadata formats (e.g., MarcEdit, perl, MARC:pm); demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and implement projects in a technology rich environment; strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills; and demonstrated scholarly or research interests. Experience of working in a culturally diverse environment highly preferred.

Job Description The PDL invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Librarian for Access Services. The PDL seeks an energetic, knowledgeable, and technologically capable individual, capable in traditional cataloging practices but also eager to create exemplary access to a large and growing array of electronic resources. This new position reflects the PDL’s commitment to meet the needs of its users through innovative and creative application of technology. It will help PDL to meet new access challenges in an environment of Web-resources and services.
Responsibilities The Librarian for Access Services will play a crucial role in the delivery of a high quality parliamentary information and research service. He/She will manage the online enquiries and www.panjabdigilib.org. The post is responsible for logging research enquiries from Members; answering reference queries; document delivery/inter-library loan services; lending and circulation services and support for research teams. The Assistant Librarian will also participate in the delivery of information skills training and actively promote the Library’s information resources amongst the Library users. The Librarian should have a strong commitment to customer service.

The successful applicant will also participate in business plan projects supporting the delivery of innovative research and information services to Members.

  • To provide quality information and research service to Members, Committees and staff of the PDL.
  • To develop and contribute to a range of current awareness services and research products.
  • To develop and implement library user education and training programs.
  • To contribute to the further development of electronic services and the library’s intranet.
  • To keep abreast of current issues in information management.
  • To monitor/advise research teams on appropriate subject resources.
  • To give representations to different libraries of the region to establish partnerships.
Qualifications Required: BLib degree.

Preferred:
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work in a demanding customer service oriented environment
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as on own initiative
  • Satisfactory experience of library and information work
  • Relevant experience in a specialist library and/or of enquiry/research work
  • Experience of managing Library Assistants
  • Experience of development and implementation of library user education and training programmes
  • Experience in the development and maintenance of electronic resources and intranets
  • Experience of working in a culturally diverse environment highly preferred.
