Sikh religion, like all other world religion, had to bring about several religious reforms in the 1920s in order to rid Sikh religion from the strange hold of Hinduism. The Bhasaur Movement, originating from village Bhasaur in District Sangrur of Punjab, was more radical and puritanical in its reforms them the mainstream Singh Sabha Movement. It did not compromise with the fundamental Sikh principles and completely ignored polities and its impact on the Sikh masses. So it got somewhat marginalized and isolated because of its rigid, puritanical stance. Even then its contribution to Sikh religion is significant. This research dissertation narrates its origin, evolution and impact on Sikh society of Punjab. The thesis is well-researched, analytical and properly evaluates the contribution of Bhasaur Movement |
