"Identity is partly heritage, partly upbringing, but mostly the choices you make in life." - Patricia Briggs

Each individual becomes what he or she is due to a set of factors such as family one gets, friends one chooses, education one undergoes and the priorities one sets. We acquire one identity from our individuality, and, another identity is given to us by our community, culture and nation. To grow as an individual, we need to inculcate certain values. Our schools and society emphasize moral values and to some extent, ethical values. But are we caring for our cultural values? The rich heritage of our forefathers haunts us with this question. Let us introspect, find an answer and do what we can to set the things right.

Twilight Years

Exploring the past and looking into the future, PDL is digitizing, preserving and sharing with our valued patrons some of the rare documents which have a bearing on our national heritage. In this issue, we present a synopsis of a letter from a Home Department file no. 4/6/1944 containing Mahatma Gandhi's interview with a British journalist in India in 1944 and the reaction and response of prominent political figures from Britain, Canada and America to this interview published in "News Chronicle" on July 11, 1944. Mighty empires never fall abruptly nor do they negotiate transfer of power easily. They negotiate and compromise only when cornered and coerced from all sides.

We have selected some instances of the musical heritage of Panjab.
